in my own life: bathroom makeover

today's installment of "in my own life" is about my bathroom! ever since i moved into my own apartment, it's been my favorite room, minus the old & permanently stained tub and window in the shower (whose idea was that???). okay, so it's not really my favorite room structurally speaking, but it is special to me because it's always been an explosion of color!

i'm an avid fan of the color pink (please don't roll your eyes), and while i used to be a pink FANATIC, i've toned down with age. so when i began apartment living 3 years ago, i took the small bathrooms that usually accompany 1-bedroom places as an opportunity to contain my pink obsession in one place instead of scattering it everywhere. without further ado . . .

BEFORE

the shower curtain (from Target, of course) has been the anchor of this pink room, but its delicate graphics and sheer, light texture kept it from getting overwhelming. you can't see the detail on the shower hooks too well, but each one has a pink flower on it that matches the curtain. you can see the accents of my towels, garbage bucket, and pink toothbrush cup by the sink.

more pink! the storage bin on the back of the toilet holds some of my MANY miscellaneous hair & beauty products. the white cabinet with the open space on the bottom IS my favorite part of the bathroom. and the trivet on top of it was another Target find --- it was in a totally different section, but i couldn't believe how well it matched the shower curtain! so i had to get it.

and now for the:

AFTER

voila! this shower curtain was on sale at Target (yes, i'm addicted, but it pays off!) and i snatched it up. i've been wanting a change in the bathroom for some time now, but never came across the right thing. the bold, colorful pattern caught my eye, and let's face it, it's so ME. (so even if you think it's obnoxious, please lie and say you like it.) the pictures aren't the greatest quality, but it doesn't take much to showcase THOSE colors!

i'm going to leave the same shower hooks (in an eclectic way that i like, they actually match) and accents. i bought a couple turquoise towels that were on clearance to spice up the towel rack. this bathroom makeover cost $27 and about 10 minutes of my time to switch the shower curtains.

since the curtain is so colorful, i can put just about anything out and it only contributes to the fun atmosphere of the small room. i did switch out my pale pink soap for a yellow one to bring out the yellow in the curtain :) though you can't see it here, i'm also keeping the trivet on the cabinet.

i love that just one thing changed the room so drastically! believe it or not, the bright colors really help in the morning --- which is when i need the most help developing a cheerful outlook on life. and anything that contributes to a cheerful outlook is always welcome in my home.

[side note: if you're lucky, i'll post a picture of my even MORE makeover-ed bathroom now that i've put up colored Christmas lights in there --- yes, the classic ones with oversized bulbs! it's a veritable shrine to fun and color in there!]

so have you made any quick (and yet so satisfying) changes lately?

oh this just harkens me back to terrace apts when i used to shower in the soft glow of christmas lights and secretly wonder if one of us was going to somehow electrocute her self.

wow, that shower curtain...is... wow! well, it's you and if it helps wake you up in the morning then even better!

i do love me some Thharr-jay!

PS: i really do love this post. especially that you switched out your soap for a more coordinated color!

oh but wasn't that shower FABULOUS in the early morning hours? or the late night hours, whichever is your preferred showering time?

i know. the shower curtain is NOT the subtle, classy style that is yours. it's the playful, spastic style that is mine...

you know i'd switch the soap.
i'm just neurotic like that.
