she listens: kate havnevik

so this isn't about interior design, but another one of my absolute loves: music. i was {this close} to majoring in classical piano study in college and have been singing in choirs, as well as madrigal and vocal jazz groups, since i was in 4th grade. the strange thing is that i didn't own a CD until i was in college, and i didn't own a Discman (remember those?) until i graduated. and i JUST bought an iPod Nano THIS YEAR. yeah, i'm a little behind the times for someone who's so obsessed with music. it's just one of those things about me (among many) that doesn't make much sense :)

anyway, i discovered Kate Havnevik years ago when i heard one of her songs on Grey's Anatomy, but i just bought her album (Melankton) recently. she's like Imogen Heap with a bit of an edge - i love her use of strings and brass over electronic elements.

Kate's a Norweigan musician and i think she's beautiful and daringly creative. i've always been a sucker for these female singer/songwriters who are so intricately involved with the actual production of their music. Immi, Kate, Bjork --- they're at the top of my list. i've seen Imogen Heap in concert a few times --- she can do an entire show by herself, lights and all, from a Mac set up onstage. i have enormous respect for that.

my personal favorite song of Kate's right now is "New Day" . . . and if i was a Super Blogger i'd have found some way to stream that song from this blog post, but since i'm still in the amateur stage i guess i have to say, "check her out for yourself!"

with my headphones in,
she.

because i aspire to be a Super Blogger:
Kate's website
Kate on MySpace (a great place to hear full length recordings)
Kate Havnevik on Amazon (if you're ready to commit!)
