daily candy: ecofont

DailyCandy is a source of all kinds of fantastic products, opportunities, spas, restaurants, you name it. i don't end up chasing down about 70% of their leads, but the 30% that i have taken advantage of have been exciting enough that i keep on the daily newsletter list.

this morning DC turned me onto ecofont, a new font that uses less ink (read the DC article here). apparently some Dutch people developed a font that's mainly comprised of holes, reducing the ultimate environmental impact that ink cartridges have on the planet. i can't say i love the font itself, but i do like the idea behind it. (if you use the font in a large size, it resembles letters you might see on a theatre marquee, which i think is super fun. the 12-pt looks a lot like a lighter, dustier Arial, but that's a plus too --- it isn't some crazy font that you couldn't put to everyday use.)

but get this: ecofont is offered as a free download, which i'm even more excited about. nothing ruins an altruistic effort to help the environment like making people pay for it! things like this never seem like they could help much, but if everyone used ecofont, i wonder what the impact would be?

see ecofont's pretty website here.
